Golden Eagles Swept by Wayland Baptist

PLAINVIEW, Texas -- Facing the No. 20 Pioneers (21-3, 7-1 SAC), John Brown struggled all morning and was held to its lowest hitting percentage of the season in a 3-0 (21-25, 6-25, 11-25) sweep at Wayland Baptist (Texas) this morning.

Senior Erin McIlroy posted a team-high seven kills, joined by teammate Molli Pugh's five spikes to pace the Golden Eagle (10-14, 4-4 SAC) offense. JBU committed more attack errors (28) than it did kills (23), landing a -.050 hitting percentage, its lowest output of the season. Four John Brown players were relegated to a negative attack percentage.

The tandem of senior Kailey Bain and freshman Shayna Daniels dished out a combined 21 assists, 11 and 10, respectively. As usual, senior Staci Williamson bolstered the back line, notching a match-high 13 digs. Williamson, Pugh and sophomore Audrey Dearien each chipped in with a service ace.

In the first set, John Brown trailed only by a pair of points, 20-18, but four errors catapulted the hosts to the first set victory. The second game featured two massive WBU runs as the Pioneers jetted to a 10-2 lead before closing on a 15-4 streak. The finale also saw Baptist out to an early, insurmountable lead, 10-4, en route to a 25-11 score.

Claire Jacobsma finished with a match-high eight kills while Ashlyn Westerman dished out a match-high 28 assists.

The Golden Eagles return to the court on Wednesday (Oct. 16) when it faces St. Gregory's (Okla.) in Shawnee in a 4:00 p.m. tilt.
