No. 24 Oklahoma City Shuts Out Golden Eagles, 1-0

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- The Golden Eagles were only able to send two shots on goal before Oklahoma City (5-3-0, 1-0-0 SAC) landed the first and only goal of the evening in a 1-0 OCU victory tonight at Stars Field.

Playing in its second-consecutive match on the road against a top-25 opponent, John Brown (5-3-0, 0-1-0 SAC) wasn't able to duplicate its success against Benedictine (Kan.) as a Meghan McMahon goal in the 72nd minute proved to be the game-winner.

Sophomore keeper Kristen Morency (5-3-0) suffered the loss in net, earning seven saves in the losing effort. OCU's Ashley Bechtold (1-0-0) picked up her first victory of the season, splitting time in net with teammate Alissa Reed.

The Stars sent 17 shots towards Morency, forcing the netminder to knock away seven of eight chances on goal. Freshman Sara Lachance and sophomore Madi Susmilch were the only Golden Eagles able to fire a shot on target. John Brown sent five other chances wide of the Stars' cage.

"It was an interesting game for our team tonight against a good City team," admitted head coach Kathleen Paulsen. "I thought a few individuals played very well, but collectively we did not embrace a few of the things that make up our identity and make us successful. We will take both the positives and negatives away from this game and look for ways to get better."

The ladies will return to the pitch on Saturday (Oct. 5) when the squad welcomes Southwestern Christian (Okla.) to Alumni Field in the Eagles' first match at JBU as a member of the Sooner Athletic Conference. The tilt with SCU (6-1-1, 1-0-0 SAC) is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. and will be a part of JBU's Homecoming 2013 festivities.
