BETHANY, Okla. -- Freshman Molli Pugh landed double-digit kills in her fourth-consecutive match and freshman Shayna Daniels dished out a team-high 24 assists, rolling John Brown (14-17, 8-6 SAC) to an easy 3-0 (25-18,25-21,25-22) victory over Southwestern Christian (Okla.) this evening inside Pickens Springer Gymnasium.
Pugh finished the match with a match-high 10 kills and teammate, senior Erin McIlroy, chipped in with eight spikes, eight digs and two blocks in the winning effort.
The Golden Eagles limited the hosts to a mere .061 hitting percentage on the day, including the first two sets where the Eagles were unable to reach the .100 percent mark. Twenty errors and only 27 kills limited the SCU offense while John Brown hit at an impressive .300 clip in the first set (13 kills, four errors) and finished the match at .225 percent.
Senior Staci Williamson chipped in with a match-high 19 digs. Sophomore Libby Blasingame led the JBU effort at the net by notching three rejections. Six different John Brown players earned a block in the match as the visitors won the battle at the net, 5.0-3.0.
Southwestern Christian (4-30, 1-15 SAC) was led by Tori Wallar's nine kills while teammate Jessica Crenshaw earned a match-high 25 assists. Crenshaw also paced the Eagles with 12 scoops.
The victory keeps the Golden Eagles in a three-way tie in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings. Texas Wesleyan, Oklahoma City and JBU all carry a 9-6 conference mark into the final game of the season. The Golden Eagles can clinch the third seed in the upcoming SAC tournament outright if Texas Wesleyan falls to Southwestern A.G. (Texas) and Oklahoma City is defeated by No. 7 Oklahoma Baptist.
The ladies will return to the court for the final time in 2013 on Friday (Nov. 8) to face No. 15 Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 7:00 p.m. The seniors will be honored prior to their final regular season collegiate match.
