SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Despite difficult playing conditions as the fog rolled into Alumni Field, the Golden Eagles (8-4-3, 4-2-2 SAC) out-shot visiting Texas Wesleyan (8-4-1, 4-2-1 SAC), 19-7, but couldnt net a goal past Ram keeper Nikki Lockwood as the squads played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw tonight.
John Brown used four shots on net from four individuals to earn a 4-3 shots on goal advantage in the match. Junior defender Julie Whitlow, senior midfielder Casey OBrien, freshman midfielder Lauren Tonkovich and sophomore forward Braydi Frederick provided the chances on net.
The Golden Eagles held an 8-3 margin in corner kicks and came close to scoring on a few occasions, but Lockwood intercepted or knocked away most of the chances, keeping the two teams scoreless.
While both keepers earned the shutout, junior goalkeeper Kristen Morency finished the match with three saves and increased her career clean-sheet total to 24. She currently ranks No. 23 in the nation in goals-against average (.750).
Texas Wesleyan had one prime opportunity to score in the 68th minute when the Rams found themselves in the JBU box with Morency out of position. A cross made its way to Lauren Kee at the left post with a wide open net. Freshman Sam Weber bolted across the goal line and managed to get her leg up in front of Kees blast, preserving Morencys shutout bid.
John Brown is now 1-4-1 all-time against Texas Wesleyan.
The Golden Eagles will close its 2014 regular season campaign when it visits Oklahoma City on Tuesday (Oct. 28) to face Mid-America Christian (Okla.) at 1:00 p.m.
