BETHANY, Okla. -- Sophomore forward Braydi Frederick notched her team-leading fourth goal of the season and the Golden Eagles (5-2-1, 1-0-0 SAC) used a 15-3 shooting advantage to defeat Southwestern Christian (Okla.) today by a score of 1-0 at Cagle Family Field.
Junior goalkeeper Kristen Morency wasnt called upon to make a save in SCUs three shot attempts on the afternoon. With the clean sheet, Morency increases her season total to four and her career total to 20.
John Brown earned a 7-2 shooting advantage over the hosts in the first half, but was unable to find the back of the net, including an opportunity for Frederick in the sixth minute which required a Southwestern Christian defender to knock the shot attempt away from the goal mouth.
The second half was again all John Brown as the Golden Eagles racked up an 8-1 shooting margin.
Finally, on its 13th shot of the afternoon, JBU found a way to break the deadlock. In the 79th minute, senior midfielder Casey OBriens corner kick managed to pinball briefly in the box before Frederick was able to get a foot on a bouncing ball just yards away from the goal. The strike barely crossed the line inside the near, right post.
Kaylie Naumann made four saves in the loss while SCU recorded a pair of team saves.
Freshman midfielder Sara Frey paced John Brown with five shot attempts while sophomore midfielder Sara Lachance chipped in with four opportunities. Frederick launched both of her shot attempts on goal and scored her team-leading fourth game-winning goal.
The Golden Eagles will return to the pitch on Wednesday (Oct. 1) at Alumni Field against No. 17 Oklahoma City at 5:30 p.m.
