Three Second-Half Strikes Send Women's Soccer to Conference-Opening Win

SHAWNEE, Okla. -- Freshman Anne Metz launched her first-career game-winner and freshmen Jastin Redman and Aspen Robinson added insurance goals as the John Brown womens soccer team (5-5-0, 1-0-0 SAC) claimed a convincing 3-0 victory at St. Gregorys (Okla.) in its conference opener at Fr. Victor Roberts Field.

Metzs game-clincher snapped a scoreless tie in the 50th minute after the Golden Eagles out-shot the Cavaliers (5-4-0, 0-1-0 SAC) 11-4 in the first half. Senior Alex Fahr settled a loose ball up the left flank and sent a pass into Metz, who deposited her third tally of the season into the left side of the net.

Continuing the offensive onslaught in the second half that saw the visitors enjoy a 15-1 margin in shots, JBU tacked two more on the scoreboard in a span of four minutes.

In the 60th minute, Robinson doubled John Browns lead after making a pair of SGU defenders miss at the top of the box. She then let go a blast to the right side past Cavalier keeper Jena Flewelling for her fourth goal of the season.

Not to be outdone, Redman forced herself onto the scoresheet in the 64th minute when she potted her sixth goal of the year off a free kick from the right flank.

Junior keeper Hannah Poor climbed over the .500 mark on the year, increasing her record to 5-4-0 and collected her second solo shutout of the year, making a pair of saves. Flewelling stopped three of JBUs six shots on goal before giving way to backup Mallory Adams in the 67th minute.

With a final 26-5 shooting advantage, the Golden Eagles were paced by six Redman shots, followed by five Robinson strikes. Freshmen Anna Brown and Tainara Oliveira launched three attempts in the win while newcomer Melody Hagen and junior Sara Lachance each attempted two shots.

JBU will return to action on Saturday (Oct. 3) when it welcomes Bacone (Okla.) to Alumni Field for a 1 p.m. matchup. The contest will be a part of the John Brown University Homecoming 2015 festivities.
