Carpenter sets new program record in Golden Eagles' 8-0 win over Bacone

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Junior Aspen Carpenter broke out of a scoring funk in a big way, setting a new John Brown University women's soccer team single-match points record by notching three goals and three assists (9 points), as the Golden Eagles stretched their winning streak at Alumni Field to 28 on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 14) with an 8-0 drubbing of Bacone (Okla.).

With just one goal in her previous five matches, Carpenter netted the game winner just 3:20 into the contest as JBU (11-2-0, 5-0-0 Sooner Athletic) exploded for two more goals over the next 1:41 from senior Sara Frey and sophomore Katherine Haar to take a commanding 3-0 lead over the Warriors (2-12-0, 0-6-0), which entered the contest having lost its previous six.

Freshman Sienna Nealon joined the scoring parade with a four-yard rip in the 18th minute, assisted by Carpenter, before another pair of goals ballooned the host's lead to six.

Carpenter finished a long free kick from junior Anne Metz in the box for her second of the match in the 24th minute of play, just 1:16 before freshman Emily Jordan scored her first collegiate goal from senior Hannah Poor and Carpenter from five yards out.

After out-shooting the Warriors in the first half 23-1, John Brown came out with more chances in the second half, but couldn't put a shot past Bacone keeper Daphne Harvey until the 65th minute when Carpenter completed the 16th hattrick in program history and clinched the new single-match points record.

Poor's blast in the 71st minute from sophomore Hannah Sweaney closed out the scoring.

JBU starter freshman Maggie Allen was relieved at the break by counterpart Caitlyn Logan, who made a save in the second half. Allen picked up the victory, moving her season mark to 5-0-0.

In all, eight players found the scoresheet for the Golden Eagles and five different players scored multiple points. Haar, Frey and Poor each finished with a brace (1 goal, 1 assist), while Metz dished out three assists in the victory.

The Golden Eagles will now rest until Tuesday (Oct. 17) when JBU travels to Shawnee, Okla. to take on St. Gregory's at 1 p.m.
