Men’s soccer puts up eight-spot on Central Christian; Holt finally breaks program record

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Junior Kelvin Omondi netted a hattrick in the first half and senior Adam Holt needed just one save to set a new all-time program mark as the Golden Eagles (8-5-1, 4-2-1 Sooner Athletic) cruised to an easy 8-0 win over conference-newcomer Central Christian (Kan.) on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 21) at Alumni Field.

Steve Wilson held the program record for career shutouts since 1982 with 23, and with tonight's clean-sheet effort, his first of the season, Holt surpassed Wilson on the all-time list with 24, breaking the 35-year record with a single save in the second half.

John Brown used a 27-3 shooting advantage over the Tigers (9-5-1, 2-4-1) and scored four goals in each half for its most lopsided result of the season. Besides Omondi's hattrick, the Golden Eagles received stout performances from juniors Ryan Williams and Conner Haney. Williams netted a goal and two assists (4 points) while Haney added two goals and one assist (5 points).

Omondi tallied the game-winner, his sixth such goal this season, in the 14th minute on an unassisted effort that he finished with a shot off the outside of his foot in the slot past CCC keeper Brian Silva for a 1-0 lead.

Sophomore Joao Silva and Haney set up Omondi's second of the afternoon, just four minutes later, when Haney saved the ball up the right flank before slotting a pass ahead to Silva. Silva passed across the top of the 18 to Omondi for an eight-yard rip doubling the JBU advantage.

Omondi finished off the hattrick with a header at the back post in the 45th minute just before the half.

Haney's first of the afternoon came in the 37th minute off a feed from Williams. Haney would also close the scoring in the 76th minute.

Williams' free kick that bent over a Tiger wall and just inside the near left post jump-started a John Brown barrage that saw three goals in 10 minutes. Sophomore Amilcar Gonzalez scored his second of the season by chipping a Samuel Estrada pass over reserve Antonio Ramirez Villa and senior Marco Cardona's shot eventually found its way to the back of the net after losing possession in the box before regaining control and letting a shot go from five yards away.

The three first-half goals places Omondi at 15 goals on the season, two behind SAC leader Dominik Tajak of Mid-America Christian (Okla.)

JBU's win was the most lopsided result since last season's 7-0 win over St. Gregory's (Okla.) on Oct. 8.

The Golden Eagles will now rest until Tuesday (Oct. 24) when JBU will travel to take on Oklahoma City at 7 p.m.
