Southwestern Christian spoils men’s soccer senior day

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- League-leading Southwestern Christian (Okla.) scored a pair of second-half goals and the John Brown University men's soccer team was unable to find a response as the visitors escaped Alumni Field with a 2-0 decision on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 28).

Matheus Goviea's 24-yard free kick in the 46th minute stood as the game-winner, less than two minutes into the second half and Alexandre De Silva potted an insurance tally in the 85th minute, handing SCU (14-4-0, 8-2-0 Sooner Athletic) it's first-ever regular-season win over the Golden Eagles (8-7-1, 4-4-1) in Siloam Springs.

The visitors out-shot the Golden Eagles 15-7 on the match as junior Kelvin Omondi attempted three towards Southwestern Christian keeper Caleb Swanepoel. Junior Conner Haney had a prime scoring opportunity in the second half but couldn't convert, finishing with two shots, one on target.

Swanepoel finished the shutout with four saves while senior Adam Holt made five saves in the loss.

The loss marked the second time the Golden Eagles have been shutout at home this season.

Prior to the match, JBU honored five seniors in Marco Cardona, Connor Georgopulos, Steve Teshima, Adam Holt and Collin Smith.
