FT. WORTH, Texas -- Texas Wesleyan threw up a season-high 13 blocks and the John Brown University volleyball team hit just .057 (37-28-157) in a four-set loss (23-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-22) at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 30).
The Golden Eagles (16-5, 5-2 Sooner Athletic) attacked at its lowest percentage of the season in the loss, while the Rams (16-1, 6-1) attacked at a meager .191 percentage (51-21-157). Wesleyan threw 13 blocks in the JBU attack, led by Tierra Coverson's nine rejections.
While the first two sets saw two of the conference's best battle toe-to-toe, the third set swung the momentum into Wesleyan's favor for good, where the hosts managed six of its 13 blocks on the afternoon.
Sophomore Carly McKinney recorded her seventh double-double of the season, knocking down a team-best 11 kills (11-4-52) and dug 14 TWU attack attempts. Seniors Beth Brankle and Alyssa Arnold each scooped 17 while Arnold passed out 32 assists in the loss.
Coverson paced TWU with 10 digs, as did Shelby Stinnett, which accompanied a double-double in 14 digs. Kayla Hayes dug a team-best 17 while Sasha Robinson passed out 30 assists in the win.
JBU now sits at fourth in the SAC after the consecutive losses and will face Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Friday (Oct. 6) at 7 p.m. before a date with conference newcomers Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday at 11 a.m. as a part of the Homecoming 2017 festivities.
