LEBANON, Tenn. -- The No. 19 John Brown University men's soccer team managed just two shots as Cumberland (Tenn.) needed just one goal in a 1-0 decision on Monday (Sept. 4) afternoon at Lindsey Donnell Stadium.
CU's Daniel Williams scored the match's lone goal in the 29th minute, sending the Golden Eagles (0-3-0) to its first winless start in three matches since 2014.
Junior Ashby Clark had his first-half shot blocked while sophomore reserve Benard Mwangi's attempt in the second half proved to be Bennet Strutz's lone save of the contest as he pitched his second shutout of the season.
Senior Adam Holt made a pair of saves as the host Phoenix (3-0-0) out-shot the Golden Eagles 18-2 on the afternoon.
John Brown returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 9) to take on MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) in Olathe at 3:30 p.m.
