Reserves play big role in rolling Our Lady of the Lake

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Sophomore Kathryn Huff scored late in the first half and the No. 21 John Brown University women's soccer team unloaded 30 shots in a 4-1 win over Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) on Thursday (Sept. 7) evening at Alumni Field.

Reserves scored twice for the Golden Eagles (3-1-0) as each player on the roster found her way onto the field. Huff's goal in the 36th minute made way for a trio of second-half tallies, including one by reserve freshman Sienna Nealon in the 81st minute, her second of the season.

John Brown has now won 22 straight games at Alumni Field.

"It's always exciting when everyone can get a little time on the field," admitted head coach Kathleen Paulsen. "We need to learn [from that last goal], but I think we will get better with more experience and time. We played players in new positions, and I think they handled it well, for the most part.

"We need to continue to get better, but overall, I was pleased."

The visiting Saints (0-2-0) ruined freshman Caitlyn Logan's first-career clean sheet bid by scoring in the 81st minute. Still, Logan remains undefeated on the season (3-0-0) after making four saves on the match.

Huff's first goal of the season came off a nice feed from freshman Paige Kula on the left wing. Junior Anne Metz tipped the cross to a crashing Huff, who buried a shot past OLLU keeper Savannah Hernandez.

Junior Aspen Carpenter netted a pair of second-half goals, her first two of the season, just three minutes apart in the 49th and 52nd minute, respectively. The first was via a penalty kick while the second was a rocket corner service that deflected off a Saints player and in. Both strikes were unassisted.

Nealon scored her second of the season, again off a set piece, when she deflected Kula's corner kick service in right at the goal line, sliding past her defensive mark in the process.

Hernandez took the loss, making five saves on nine JBU shots on goal.

JBU returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 9) when it welcomes Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) to Alumni Field in game three of the JBU Classic at 1 p.m.
