PLAINVIEW, Texas -- The John Brown University men's soccer team struggled to find much offense, suffering a 1-0 loss at defending National Champion and No. 13 Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Friday (Oct. 12) afternoon.
Falling to 1-3 this season against top 25 competition, the Golden Eagles (5-6-1, 2-3-0 Sooner Athletic) were out-shot 14-5 in the match as freshman Micah Herrmann managed the lone shot on goal for John Brown. JBU suffered its third clean sheet setback of the season.
Federico Ucar's second goal of the season in the 10th minute was all the Pioneers (9-2-0, 4-1-0) needed to secure its third consecutive win.
JBU appeared to tie the contest with a goal in the second half when WBU keeper Ziggy Camejo's punt careemed into senior Ashby Clark and bounced into the goal. The official ruled that the punt had ricocheted off Clark's arm, and the goal was disallowed.
JBU will now make the long return home and rest before traveling to a pair of contests next week at Southwestern Christian (Okla.) and Central Christian (Kan.) on Tuesday and Saturday, respectively.
