Volleyball Takes Set Off #3 Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The John Brown University volleyball team fell in straight sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-21) to Bethel (Ind.) to kick off day two of the Hampton Inn Classic before taking No. 3 Columbia (Mo.) to four sets (25-12, 25-10, 26-24, 25-15) on Saturday (Oct. 13) inside the Southwell Complex.

In John Brown's (11-12) second matchup of the day, the Golden Eagles took on host Columbia (27-2). While the Cougars ran away with the first two sets, JBU showed some resiliancy, picking off the fourth set before Columbia closed out the match in four.

In the third set, John Brown's All-Tournament selection sophomore Taylor Glover launched seven of JBU's 11 kills and hit .500 in the frame to accompany a pair of block-assists. Freshman Jenna Lowery scooped seven of her 17 digs as the visitors out-hit Columbia .182-.150 in the set.

Glover finished with eight kills, four block-assists and five digs for the Golden Eagles. Junior Jessica Meyer chipped in with seven digs and three block-assists in the loss.

In John Brown's first matchup of the day, Bethel used 11-kill outings from Madison Rosenberger and Madyson Beaver to take care of the Golden Eagles in straight sets.

Meyer and junior Lindsey Davis contributed seven kills each in the loss, and Davis also posted a season-high seven block-assists.

John Brown will travel back from Missouri and have five days rest before taking off on another long journey - to Oklahoma Panhandle State and Wayland Baptist (Texas), respectively, on Friday (Oct. 19) and Saturday.
