MUSKOGEE, Okla. -- In a lopsided frenzied affair, the John Brown University men's soccer team racked up a season-best offensive output behind a pair of hat tricks from seniors Giovani Bejarano and Conner Haney, powering the Golden Eagles to a 10-0 blanking of Bacone (Okla.) on Tuesday (Oct. 2) afternoon at the Love-Hatbox Field.
Senior Britt Wisener came up with one save, Bacone's only shot in the match, off a free kick in the second half. Otherwise, the field was tilted towards the Warrior (0-3-0, 0-3-0 Sooner Athletic) net the entire match.
JBU (4-5-1, 1-2-0) received a pair of first collegiate goals late in the match as senior James Pollard poked a shot past Bacone keeper Raul Camarena in the 71st minute. With just 22 seconds left in the match, freshman Max Everswick recorded his moment, when he buried a rebound off a Haney blast that Camarena saved, but was unable to corral the rebound.
Bejarano loves no field more than Love-Hatbox Field. He completed his three-goal performance by sticking a penalty kick in the 85th minute, which was his fifth goal at the pitch in two career games. In 2016, Bejarano put up a brace in JBU's 5-1 win over the Warriors. Bejarano opened the scoring in the 10th minute and added his second of the afternoon just 26 seconds before halftime.
Haney piled on in the performance of his career, piling up three goals and two assists (8 point) in the contest. His second strike was a thing of beauty as he unleashed a shot to the upper left corner in the run of play after eluding a defender. Haney completed the three-goal performance with a shot to the bottom left corner from the top of the box with four minutes left in the contest.
Senior Ryan Williams added a brace of his own, including the match's most impressive team combination. After slipping through the defense and taking a pass from freshman Micah Herrmann, who totaled three assists, in the 14th minute for his first of the game, Williams was on the back end of a tic-tac-toe combination that saw Haney feed Herrmann up the right flank before Herrmann fed Williams in the middle on a direct pass, which Williams one-touched to the left pocket of the goal.
The Golden Eagles out-shot the hosts 46-1 in the match, marking season-best efforts in shots, shots on goal (24), goals (10) and assists (6).
JBU returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 6) at Alumni Field. The Golden Eagles will welcome Science & Arts (Okla.) for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
