SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- The No. 7 John Brown University women's soccer team raked up a season-high in goals and locked up the fourth seed in next week's Sooner Athletic tournament with a 10-0 win over Southwestern A.G. (Texas) on Saturday (Oct. 27) afternoon at Alumni Field.
Senior Aspen Carpenter posted two goals and two assists (6 points) to lead the Golden Eagle scoring effort on Senior Day, while freshman Maggie Bailey recorded her first collegiate goal and sophomore Sienna Nealon added a pair of strikes off the bench in the lopsided result.
In a match where head coach Kathleen Paulsen emptied the bench, literally, Bailey scored the lone goal in the second half after notching her first career goal during the nine-goal parade that was the first half. Sophomore Grace McKinney also recorded her first collegiate points, as she passed out three assists.
Senior Jastin Redman scored her team-leading ninth of the season and junior Hannah Sweaney, junior Sarah Hughes, and junior Kristen Howell each tallied in the contest that saw a 37-6 shooting disparity. Howell has now scored in three of her last four outings.
The goals seemed to come in bunches for John Brown (13-3-1, 5-2-1) as Carpenter, Redman and Sweaney all scored in the first six minutes of play.
Hughes made it 4-0 in the 14th minute by one-touching a Carpenter corner service at the back post.
Another scoring flurry then happened when Carpenter, Nealon and Bailey each scored in a seven-minute span as the score ballooned to 7-0 in the 29th minute of play.
Nealon and Howell added markers in the 35th and 44th minutes, respectively.
The second half featured just one strike, Bailey's second of the contest, off an Alair Love cross from the right flank. It was Love's second assist of the season.
Sophomore Caitlyn Logan made three saves in the first half and picked up the victory to move to 13-3-1 on the season. Logan then made way for freshman Katie Greathouse's collegiate debut. Greathouse was not tested in the second half as the duo shared the combined shutout.
After the final whistle, JBU honored its six graduating seniors — Anna Brown, Aspen Carpenter, Melody Hagen, Annika Pollard, Jastin Redman and Hannah Sweaney.
Now with the regular season concluded, John Brown has locked up a home quarterfinal contest on Friday (Nov. 2) evening at 6 p.m. Official matchups will be announced by the conference office early in the week.
