Blistering Shooting Propels Women’s Basketball to 5-0 Start

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- The John Brown University women's basketball team shot over 50 percent from the floor for the second consecutive game and 53 points in the paint sent the Golden Eagles to a wire-to-wire 81-57 win over Jarvis Christian (Texas) on Tuesday (Nov. 20) night inside Bill George Arena.

Senior Karina Chandra was a perfect 3-of-3 from the floor, all from behind the arc, which helped the hosts (5-0) build up a 15-point advantage early in the second quarter, but a 14-8 Bulldog run down the stretch closed the gap to seven, momentarily, before freshman Kayla Nelson hit a pair at the line to push the advantage to nine, 33-24.

The second half was all John Brown, however, as senior Baily Cameron scored 11 of her game-high, and season-best, 19 points and the Golden Eagles hit 19-of-31 (52.6 percent) from the floor, including 73 percent inside the arc. The lead ballooned to a game-high 27 points late in the four quarter.

Junior Jordan Martin posted her best number on the early season by knocking down 6-of-7 from the field, 2-of-3 from long range, to contribute 17 points, five rebounds and four assists. Chandra also finished in double figures with 14 points.

Cameron completed her second double-double of the season by pulling down 10 defensive rebounds, helping the Golden Eagles to a 38-29 rebounding advantage.

JBU, which entered the game averaging 86.8 points per game, posted a trio of periods that featured more than 20 points apiece.

The Bulldogs (0-7) failed to register its first win of the season, shooting just 34 percent (21-of-62) from the floor, but still featured four players in double-figure scoring. Nyesha Fisher and Jandice Jackson each knocked down three triples to finish with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Tamera Duncan came off the bench to add 13 and seven rebounds while Tyesha Brown added up 10 points and three assists.

John Brown, armed with an undefeated record, now takes to the road for a three-game swing away from Siloam Springs, beginning with a Monday (Nov. 26) night tilt at College of the Ozarks (Mo.) before resuming Sooner Athletic play later in the week at Southwestern A.G. (Texas) and Texas Wesleyan.
