SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Sporting a narrow three-point lead at halftime, the John Brown University women's basketball team out-scored Southwestern Christian (Okla.) 30-14 in the third quarter en route to a 77-61 victory to complete the season sweep of the Eagles on Thursday night (Feb. 1) inside Bill George Arena.
The visiting Eagles (8-11, 4-9 Sooner Athletic) kept pace with JBU throughout the first half, forcing five ties and four lead changes, but junior Baily Cameron hit a triple with 55 seconds left in the first half and the Golden Eagles (14-8, 8-5) never looked back, taking control of the contest in the third quarter.
Eliora Johnson hit a bucket to kick off the third quarter, but John Brown cruised on a 17-3 run, hitting all seven field goal attempts, to build a sizable 14-point advantage, 48-34. Senior Jana Schammel scored seven on the rally, and later added a second triple, until sophomore Jordan Martin hit back-to-back buckets, the second past the deep left arc, pushing the host lead to a game-high 19, 61-42.

Cameron posted another efficient outing, hitting 10-of-15 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from behind the arc, to post a game-high 23 points to accompany five rebounds and three blocks. Schammel hit of 6-of-10 from the floor to contribute 14 points and four boards while senior Kimmy Deines continued her team-best passing with six dimes and finished with 11 points in the win.
The Golden Eagles out-rebounded the visitors, 27-22, and shot 52.7 percent from the field (29-of-55) while hitting 9-of-20 from long range.
Carly Frymire posted a season-high 20 points on 6-of-16 shooting while the conference's only player to average in double figures in both points and rebounds, Eliora Johnson, continued with her 12th double-double of the season with 16 points and a game-best 13 rebounds.
The Eagles shot 21-of-52 from the floor (40.4 percent) but converted only 25 percent from behind the arc (6-of-24). SCU's effort was sunk by seven third-quarter turnovers that fueled the John Brown run-away frame that provided the distance needed for the hosts.
On an evening that Science & Arts (Okla.) upset No. 5 Oklahoma City in Chickasha, Okla., the Golden Eagles remain in fifth place but are just three games behind the Drovers and Stars, which hold a tie for the league lead.
JBU returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 3) when the Golden Eagles travel to NCAA II University of Arkansas at Ft. Smith in exhibition action before returning to conference action next Thursday at Mid-America Christian (Okla.).
