Offense Stifled as Women’s Soccer Draws with City

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Despite kicking off the match in lopsided fashion, the No. 5 John Brown University women's soccer team saw its five-match winning streak come to a close as upstart Oklahoma City survived to play to a 0-0 double-overtime draw on Saturday (Sept. 30) afternoon at Alumni Field.

Senior Melody Hagen's 30-yard rip beat OCU keeper Kirsten Thomas in the 7th minute but managed to stay out of the goal, hitting the crossbar. The near-goal foreshadowed a difficult contest that saw the Golden Eagles (8-1-1, 1-0-1 Sooner Athletic) out-shoot the Stars 25-6, but unable to beat Thomas through 110 minutes of play.

Thomas single-handedly kept the Stars (3-1-2, 1-0-1) in the match, racking up 12 saves.

Sophomore Caitlyn Logan extended her shutout streak to 429:05, needing to make just one save on six City attempts on goal.

Senior Jastin Redman led all players with seven shots, two on target, while sophomore Katherine Haar put all four of her attempts on target. Ten Golden Eagles attempted a shot in the contest.

While without a legitimate scoring opportunity, Sara Ricks was the only Star able to put a shot on goal.

The Golden Eagles will now take a forfeit victory over Bacone (Okla.) on Tuesday (Oct. 2) and return to action on Saturday (Oct. 6) to welcome Science & Arts (Okla.) to Alumni Field for a 1 p.m. matinee showdown.
