Women’s Basketball Pounds Ecclesia to Break Skid

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Building a 27-0 lead in the first quarter, the John Brown University women's basketball team quickly ended its six-game losing skid by posting a 98-26 win over Ecclesia (Ark.) on Tuesday night (Dec. 3) inside Bill George Arena.

Setting season highs in points, assists (29), field goals made (39) and triples made (16), the Golden Eagles (3-6) used six double-digit scorers and held the visiting Royals (1-11) to a 15 percent shooting effort from the floor to run away with the easy victory.

JBU held a resounding 60-9 lead at the halftime mark and scored over 20 points in three of the four quarters to move to 18-0 all-time versus Ecclesia.

Sophomore Maddie Altman and Haley James led all players with 13 points apiece, while senior Ally Teague and freshman Tarrah Stephens added 12 each in the victory. Freshman Jessica Goldman and senior Sarah Williams, returning from injury, contributed 11 in the lopsided affair – a career-high for Goldman.

Ecclesia was led offensively by Madison Wiggins' seven points, while Saphire Thompson secured nine boards, a game high, in the loss for Ecclesia. The Royals scored half of its points (13) at the free throw line.

All 11 players head coach Jeff Soderquist had available scored points, as the John Brown bench tallied up 50 of the team's season-high output.
