SILOAM SPRINGS -- Senior Densier Carnes posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, but the No. 22 John Brown University men's basketball team just couldn't find offensive rhythm for the second-straight contest, this time falling to Texas Wesleyan, 78-48, on Thursday evening (Jan. 14) inside Bill George Arena.
Again, John Brown (0-2, 0-2 Sooner Athletic) were without the services of junior Luke Harper, senior Rokas Grabliauskas and sophomore Nemanja Obradovic.
The visiting Rams (5-1, 2-1) secured a 40-27 rebounding advantage and shot nearly 60 percent from the floor, hitting 29-of-50 – making up for 22 turnovers that JBU couldn't capitalize on. The hosts committed 18 turnovers of its own, but hit just 15-of-55 attempts from the floor and finished the contest 5-of-25 from long range.
Wesleyan started the night on a quick 14-0 run that the Golden Eagles answered with an 8-0 run of its own. The visitors pieced together a 12-0 response to take a commanding 26-8 lead with 8:30 left in the first half. In fact, the Rams posted 26 points in transition, accounting for over 30 percent of its point total.
Freshman Noah Taylor came off the bench to contribute a pair of triples, finishing with eight points.
Vydal Bradford posted 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting for the Rams, and secured six boards lead all Wesleyan scorers. Peyton Sallee contributed 14 points and six rebounds, while Christopher Coley added 12.
The Rams' 30-point win was the largest win margin in the series since Wesleyan joined the Sooner Athletic in 2016.
The Golden Eagles face Southwestern A.G. (Texas) in the second matchup of the homestand on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 16) at 2 p.m.
