Golden Eagles Drop 100 for Third Time in Wire-to-Wire Blowout

SILOAM SPRINGS -- Junior Payton Guiot's game-high 19 points led four Golden Eagles in double figures and the John Brown University men's basketball team crossed the century mark for the third time this season in a 109-54 victory over Ozark Christian (Mo.) on Thursday (Nov. 12) evening inside Bill George Arena.

Up just 10-8, the Golden Eagles (4-1) rattled off a 23-0 run on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and holding the visiting Ambassadors (0-6) to seven misses and four turnovers to build a commanding 33-9 lead. The JBU advantage grew to a game-high 58 points in the final minute of the contest.

Guiot hit five triples and added five rebounds along with three steals. Graduate student Densier Carnes converted 4-of-8 from behind the arc to contribute 18 points, six rebounds and five assists, while sophomore Noah Taylor came off the bench to score 10 of his 13 points in the second half. Junior DJ Ellis also added 10 off the bench as John Brown improved to 3-0 in Siloam Springs.

On the back of 17 triples, the hosts shot 54 percent (42-of-77) from the floor and forced the Ambassadors to commit 20 turnovers, while shooting just 37 percent (19-of-51) overall.

Behind nine boards from graduate student Brenton Toussaint, John Brown dominated the glass, 46-25, as JBU converted 15 offensive caroms into 24 second-chance points. Fifty-six points from the Golden Eagle bench accompanied a 64-36 advantage in the paint as John Brown's size took advantage of the visitors in the post.

Josiah Beckenhaur led the Ambassadors with 13 points and five rebounds. Tyler Alarid contributed 10 points and five rebounds in the loss.

In 48 hours, John Brown returns to action inside Bill George Arena, welcoming #16 Oklahoma Wesleyan for a rematch of the Nov. 2 contest that saw the Eagles hand JBU a 77-58 setback in Bartlesville. The matchup will tip at 2 p.m. and air live on the SAC Sports Network.
