SILOAM SPRINGS -- Graduate student Densier Carnes scored 12 of his game-high 21 points in the second half to propel the John Brown University men's basketball team to a 68-61 win over Central Christian (Kan.) on Saturday (Nov. 20) evening inside Bill George Arena.
After a 29-point outing at Langston (Okla.), Carnes followed up with a 6-of-11 performance against the Tigers (4-3, 0-2 Sooner Athletic) and a perfect 8-of-8 mark from the charity stripe. He also added six boards.
Senior Luke Harper contributed nine points, six rebounds and four assists for the Golden Eagles (6-2, 2-0).
The game was tied at 27 before sophomore Noah Taylor hit a pair of triples that fueled a 14-6 run that built a 41-35 Golden Eagle lead at the half.
Despite shooting 28 percent (8-of-29) in the second half, John Brown earned its way to the charity stripe, knocking down 10-of-12 attempts and forced the Tigers into nine second-half turnovers.
JBU dominated the paint, 58-38, and turned 14 CCCK turnovers into 15 points. John Brown committed only nine miscues on the evening.
Junior Nemanja Obradovic came off the bench to shoot 3-of-4 from the floor (8 points), while junior DJ Ellis added a pair of triples (8 points).
John Brown will now reset before taking on No. 24 Benedictine (Kan.) at Bill George Arena on Tuesday (Nov. 23) at 4 p.m. The team will clash live on the SAC Sports Network.
