Schermer, Ahnfeldt Complete Seasons at NAIA National Championships Meet

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Juniors Chase Schermer and Hope Ahfeldt both close the 2024 season by competing at the NAIA National Championships on Friday morning (Nov. 22) at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course.

Just three seconds off his personal best, Schermer finished in 109th place in the 8,000-meter race after crossing the tape in 25:14. Finishing the first 3,000 meters sitting in 149th place in the field of 326 competitors, Schermer improved 30 places over the final 5,000 meters in his first appearance at the national meet.

Ahnfeldt, meanwhile, posted a new personal record in her event, turning in a time of 23:16 – a 26-second improvement on the largest stage. Finishing in 161st place overall, Ahnfeldt competed at the national meet for the second time in her career. After finding difficulty between the 2,000-3,000 meter checkpoints, Ahnfeldt improved 24 places over the final half of the 6,000-meter event.

College of Idaho captured a second-consecutive men's team championship while The Master's (Calif.) earned the women's team title for the first time in program history.
