Winter’s Goal, Assist Lead #21 John Brown to Convincing Quarterfinals Victory

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Junior Aubrey Winter's goal and assist propelled the No. 21 John Brown University women's soccer team to a decisive 4-0 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State in the Sooner Athletic Conference quarterfinals on Tuesday night (Nov. 5) at Alumni Field, advancing the Golden Eagles to the tournament's semifinal round.

John Brown advances to take on the four seed, Oklahoma City, on Friday evening (Nov. 8) at 7 p.m. JBU defeated the Stars just last week by a 2-0 final at Alumni Field.

The Golden Eagles (12-5-1) were first on the scoreboard in the 18th minute when a cross from senior Lauren Walter was inadvertently bodied into the goal by an Aggie defender–John Brown's third own goal for of the season.

Despite a 16-0 shooting advantage at the intermission, the score remained 1-0, until the host side found its scoring early in the second half.

Building on the first half momentum, the Golden Eagles doubled its lead as Winter's cross from the left flank set up Walter in the 52nd minute for her 10th goal of the season. Winter then found the net herself just seven minutes later, slotting a pass from Renny Buchanan on the right side past the Aggies' goalkeeper to balloon the lead to 3-0. Just three minutes later, Elise Bosma capped off the three-goal outburst, adding the fourth goal with another assist from Buchanan, this time originating in the midfield.

John Brown's commanding performance and possession culminated in a 29-2 shooting advantage, 13 of which were on target, compared to OPSU's two total shots. Marely Fonseca (8-2-0) recorded her eighth shutout of the season, making one acrobatic save to preserve the clean sheet. JBU's pressure produced 12 corner kicks, while the Aggies managed only a single corner attempt throughout the match.
