Women’s Tennis Completes Season Sweep of OKWU

SILOAM SPRINGS -- The John Brown University women's tennis team won the doubles point and quickly ran away with a 5-2 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan on Tuesday afternoon (March 5), sweeping the season series with the Eagles at the JBU Tennis Courts.

The Golden Eagles (6-2) were tied at one apiece in doubles action until the top tandem of seniors Lin Xin Tan and Abigail Woodring captured a 6-3 win over Jewel and Madeline Henderson to clinch the 1-0 lead for the Blue and Gold.

Senior Caroline Hillock took a 10-6 win in the third-set tiebreak, besting Nikoleta Aleksic, 4-6, 6-3, in come-from-behind fashion at three, as did senior Kyla Isaac at the bottom slot. Isaac fell behind 3-6 after the first set, then strung together consecutive wins, including a 6-1 score before cruising to a 10-2 tiebreak victory.

"Oklahoma Wesleyan is much improved after adding three new players during the spring semester," noted head coach Mike Campbell. "I told our ladies before the match that this would be a well-deserved victory if we could pull it. We did, and it started by winning the doubles point, which was significant.

"We also played great singles, and Linny remains undefeated on the year. Caroline, Ellie and Kyla also chipped in with wins to clinch the match, which was huge for us."

Tan improved to 8-0 on the season with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Nancy Henderson at the top flight.

John Brown returns to action on Friday afternoon (March 8) when the Golden Eagles kick off a three-match weekend, beginning with Bethany (Kan.) at 3:00 p.m. JBU will then continue on to face Bethel (Kan.) and Friends (Kan.) the following day.
