Lambert, Walter Lead Women's Soccer in Rout of Friends

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- The No. 12 John Brown University women's soccer team (2-1-0) scored three goals in the first seven minutes of action and rolled to a 7-0 victory over Friends (Kan.) on Friday night (Aug. 30) at Alumni Field.

Sophomore Julia Lambert and senior Lauren Walter each tallied a goal and a pair of assists, leading the Golden Eagles to its most lopsided win over the Falcons (1-1-0) in the series history.

Seven different players scored for John Brown, which improved to 2-0-0 this season at home grounds.

A pair of defenders began the JBU onslaught early in the match. Senior Kaelyn Mole netted her first of the season just over two minutes into the match off a gorgeous cross from Lambert, who tracked down a ball just before it crossed the goal line, allowing Mole to tap in the cross unmarked at the back post.

Just 29 seconds later, Walter laid a back-pass to junior Olivia Fish for a 30-yard blast to the upper left corner of goal, leaving Friends stunned and in a 2-0 hole in the third minute.

The John Brown lead swelled to 3-0 at the 7:00 mark as Walter headed in a free-kick service from sophomore Brooklyn Hendricks that was destined for the right post and in. Walter is now just two goals away from setting the program's all-time goalscoring record.

Freshman Katherine Keys potted her first collegiate goal to round out the first-half scoring when her header from a tough angle skipped through the six-yard box and in off Lambert's corner service in the 18th minute.

In the second half, the hosts put up another three goals in six minutes. Junior Aubrey Winter – in her first appearance of the season – converted from the penalty spot (63'), Lambert cleaned up a Walter rebound at the back post (65') and sophomore Addie Craig blasted home a bobbled cross dropped by the Friends keeper (69').

Nine Golden Eagles accumulated points in the rout. Freshman Sunnie Woodard (2-1-0) was called on to make just two saves as John Brown carried a wide 21-4 shooting advantage on the evening, clinching her first collegiate clean sheet.

Morgan Wilkinson took the loss in goal for the visitors, making three saves on seven chances. Nia Baker didn't fare much better in relief, allowing three goals on six opportunities.

The Golden Eagles now look forward to the annual John Brown University Classic, welcoming in No. 13 Embry-Riddle (Ariz.), No. 21 Oklahoma Wesleyan and Missouri Valley. JBU will clash with Missouri Valley in match two of the classic, scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Thursday evening (Sept. 5) at Alumni Field. All four matches of the classic will be streamed live on the SAC Sports Network.
