OKLAHOMA CITY -- Junior Chase Schermer was selected as the Sooner Athletic Conference's Men's Runner of the Week after another standout performance for the Golden Eagles, the league office announced Tuesday morning (Sept. 24).
The Bend, Ore. native led the team for a second consecutive race, helping the Golden Eagles secure an 8th place finish out of 21 teams at the Larry Young Invitational on Friday evening (Sept. 20), where he clocked a time of 26:52 to place 25th overall in a field that featured 217 competitors.
"We're incredibly proud of Chase and his dedication," said head coach Peter Cunningham. "It's fantastic to see him recognized with this award, especially since he's always prioritized helping his teammates succeed. What a selfless guy."
This honor marks Schermer's first SAC Runner of the Week award of his career.
The Golden Eagles return to action Saturday (Sept. 28) at the annual Chile Pepper Festival, hosted at the University of Arkansas' Agri Park.
