SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Despite another double-double effort from sophomore Sarah Snodgrass, the John Brown University women's basketball team fell to conference leader Langston (Okla.), 55-34, in Sooner Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 25) inside Bill George Arena.
The shorthanded Golden Eagles (11-9, 9-7 Sooner Athletic) struggled offensively against the Lions' suffocating defense, converting just 29 percent from the field (14-of-49) and managed only two trips to the free-throw line.
Snodgrass posted her 16th double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Graci Harris chipped in a team-best 11 points, including two triples, and added three steals in the setback.
Langston (19-1, 15-1) leaned on its defense, forcing 14 turnovers and limiting JBU to just five points off the bench. Senior Diamond Richardson paced the Lions with 17 points, five three-pointers, and 13 rebounds, while Jordynn Conner added 12 points and three steals. Langston capitalized on second-chance opportunities, out-rebounding JBU 41-25 and securing 14 offensive boards.
After falling behind 16-8 in the first quarter, the Golden Eagles managed to hold Langston to just 10 points in the second quarter but struggled to close the gap, trailing 26-15 at halftime. JBU's most productive stretch came in the third quarter when it scored 12 points, but the Lions' defense clamped down again in the fourth, holding the hosts to just seven points.
JBU returns to action on Thursday evening (Jan. 30) when it travels to Mid-America Christian (Okla.) inside the Gaulke Activity Center for a 6 p.m. showdown. The game will be streamed live on the SAC Sports Network.
