SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Twice the Golden Eagles took the lead, and twice the visitors had an answer as the John Brown University men's soccer team let Oklahoma Panhandle State sneak out of Alumni Field with a 2-2 draw on Saturday night (Oct. 18).
Despite nearly tripling the Aggies in shots, 13-5, the Blue and Gold (9-3-2, 4-1-1 Sooner Athletic) settled for its first draw on home grounds.
Junior Amaury Jarry continued his breakout season, scoring his fourth of the year in the 27th minute when he ripped home Marcos Miranda's rebound past keeper Olai Caicoya for an ideal start.
While the Golden Eagles didn't allow a shot attempt in the first 45 minutes of action, Panhandle State (5-3-5, 1-2-3) needed just three minutes of second half play to find the equalizer. Nils Kienass headed in his second of the season off a corner service from Othman Gherab to level the match at one.
John Brown again jumped ahead nearly 20 minutes later. Junior Marcos Caballero potted another rebound past Caicoya for the 2-1 advantage, completing the play started by freshman Constantin Bauer's shot.
In the 77th minute, however, OPSU again had an answer – this time on a counter that saw the Aggies rushing towards senior Adam Tebbs and the back line with numbers. Til Vaupel lost the ball, stripped by senior Kendal Madrigal, but the ball rolled directly to an open Pablo Benavides on the left side of goal for his first of the season.
With three matches remaining in the regular season, the Blue and Gold will continue its three-match homestand with Southwestern Christian (Okla.) on Tuesday night (Oct. 21), live on the SAC Sports Network and the Urban Edge Network at 7 p.m. JBU will welcome Mid-America Christian (Okla.) on Saturday before ending the regular season at Oklahoma City next Tuesday.
