Volleyball Overwhlemed by Drover Attack as Skid Continues

CHICKASHA, Okla. -- Sophomore Federica Ferrari pounded a career-high 13 kills, and the Golden Eagles served up nine aces from the service line, but the Drover offense was too much to overcome as the John Brown University volleyball team fell in four sets (13-25, 22-25, 25-15, 14-25) at Science & Arts (Okla.) on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 18) inside the Drover Fieldhouse.

The John Brown (8-17, 4-13 Sooner Athletic) fell in its sixth-straight contest as the Drovers (16-11, 10-8) swept the season series with the Blue and Gold.

Ferrari's team-best 13 terminations came on 27 swings (.370) as she also posted a career-best single-game efficiency effort. Freshman Kate Carlson kicked in with nine kills, while freshman Clara Hyke added eight more in the loss.

The visitors jumped all over USAO in the third set with the teams knotted at 12 apiece. A 9-2 run – powered by two Ferrari kills and a pair of aces from sophomore Mallory Jury – allowed John Brown to run away with the third set. JBU hit .208 (10-5-24) in the third, far and away its best single-set output of the afternoon.

The Drovers, meanwhile, combined to hit .409 (49-11-93) in its three set victories and featured a quartet of double-digit terminators, including Chloe Conover (15), Victoria Wright (12), Morgan Kobe (10) and Samantha Perez (10).

Sophomore Tessa Burton passed out 26 assists, the tenth time this season eclipsing the 20-assist mark. Sophomore Mallory Jury finished the afternoon with four aces, and freshman Paige Addington posted 11 digs.

John Brown continues its five-match road trip on Wednesday evening (Oct. 29), when the Golden Eagles take on rival College of the Ozarks (Mo.) in Point Lookout. The 6 p.m. start time will be carried live on the SAC Sports Network and the Urban Edge Network. JBU will then double-back to face Southwestern Christian (Okla.) on Friday night and Oklahoma City on Saturday afternoon.
