Women's Tennis Sweeps Ozarks in Dominant Senior Day Performance

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- The John Brown University women's tennis team delivered a commanding performance on Wednesday (April 9) afternoon, sweeping Ozarks (Ark.) 7-0 at the JBU Tennis Courts to secure its sixth win in the last seven matches.

John Brown (10-4) set the tone early in doubles play, with seniors Erin Kuykendall and Ellie Swan improved to 9-1 as a tandem by shutting out Gabriella Davis and Erika Jones 6-0 at the second flight. Sophomores Ana Moreno and Annelise Dunn secured the doubles point for the Golden Eagles with a 6-3 win over Lauren Adams and Kelsey Ground at the third position. Freshmen Ashley Miller and Arianny Sira completed the doubles sweep with a 6-4 victory against Jessica Gayle and Kelsey Smith at the top spot.

The Golden Eagles maintained their momentum in singles play, as Sira quickly dispatched Ground 6-1, 6-1 at the third flight to extend JBU's lead to 2-0. Miller followed with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win over Gayle at the top position, before Kuykendall clinched the match for John Brown with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph against Smith at the second flight.

Swan added to the Golden Eagles' advantage with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Jones at the fourth flight, moving to 9-4 on the season, while Dunn cruised past Jayden Vazquez 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6. Moreno completed the sweep for the Blue and Gold with a 6-4, 6-0 win against Adams at the fifth position. Moreno is now 8-3 in singles action.

The University of the Ozarks (3-10) struggled to find its footing throughout the contest, failing to win a set in any of the singles matches as the Golden Eagles claimed its third sweep of the season – including a second time against the visiting Eagles.

John Brown returns to action on Friday afternoon (April 11) when they travel to Tulsa, Okla. to take on Texas Wesleyan and Missouri Baptist at the Case Tennis Center at LaFortune Park. The matches are scheduled to kick off at noon and 4 p.m., respectively.
