Women’s Soccer Downed 1-0 at Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- For the first time this season, the Golden Eagles were shut out as the No. 6 John Brown University women's soccer team fell in a 1-0 setback at Columbia (Mo.) on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 20) at R. Marvin Owens Field.

Georgia Pardalos chipped sophomore Marely Fonseca in the 50th minute and despite a 9-7 shooting advantage in the second half, the Golden Eagles (3-2-2) couldn't beat goalkeeper Natalie Allison as the Cougars (2-4-1) bested JBU for the fourth consecutive time dating back to 2022.

Junior Addie Craig shot did beat Allison, but rattled off the crossbar in the 25th minute, denying the Blue and Gold an early 1-0 advantage.

The visiting side held a 9-6 shooting advantage after the Cougars took the 1-0 lead, but even a shooting frenzy in the 79th minute – where Craig and senior Aubrey Winter combined for three shots – could hand JBU the equalizer.

Craig led John Brown with five shots, while sophomore Katherine Keys attempted four with three landing on target. Winter also placed both of her shot attempts on frame.

Fonseca (3-1-0) made a career-high eight saves in 76 minutes of action before giving way to senior Sunnie Woodard. Woodard made one saves in the remaining 14 minutes of action. Allison also boasted eight saves in the clean-sheet effort.

The visitors held a 15-13 shooting advantage over the full time, and earned seven corner kick chances with the Cougars earned only two.

John Brown opens Sooner Athletic play on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 27) when the Golden Eagles pay a visit to rival No. 22 Science & Arts (Okla.) at McLaughlin Field. The SAC Sports Network and the Urban Edge Network will carry the simulcast of the contest.
