Golden Eagles Sweep Saturday Doubleheader, Rally Past Blue Mountain Christian

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The John Brown University men's tennis team swept a Saturday doubleheader (Feb. 28) at Burns Park Tennis Center, dominating Rust (Miss.), 6-1, in the morning before rallying from a 3-1 deficit to edge Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.), 4-3, in the afternoon.

The Golden Eagles (3-6) swept all three doubles flights to claim the point against Rust (1-3). Sophomore Lucas Machado and freshman Santiago Jaime opened with a 6-1 win at the second position, followed by senior Spencer Keeter and junior Andrew Aylor securing a 6-2 victory at the top flight. Senior Jonathan Hillock and junior Grant Hinkle completed the sweep, 6-1, at the third slot.

Machado opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the second spot. Jaime followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the fourth flight.

Sophomore William Prochazka clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Skye Glasgow at the sixth position. Aylor added a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the fifth slot, and Keeter won, 6-1, 6-1, at the top flight. Moubarak Ali-Kparah provided Rust's only point with a 0-6, 6-2, 11-9 comeback over Hillock at the third spot.

In the second match of the day, John Brown (4-6) again swept the doubles point against Blue Mountain Christian (2-4). Keeter and Aylor took the top flight, 6-1, before Machado and Jaime won, 6-1, at the second position. Hillock and Hinkle finished the sweep with a 6-3 win at the third slot.

The Toppers turned the tables in singles play. Pablo Cruz defeated Machado, 6-0, 7-5, at the second spot, then Adriaan Engelbrecht handled Keeter, 6-4, 6-2, at the top flight. Caleb Rogers edged Prochazka, 6-4, 7-6, at the sixth position to put Blue Mountain Christian ahead, 3-1.

Jaime stopped the run with a 7-5, 6-1 win at the fourth flight. Aylor leveled the match at three apiece, battling past Craig Blevins, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8, at the fifth position.

Hillock clinched the comeback with a 6-0, 4-6, 10-7 victory over Kevin Kotze at the third spot in tiebreaking fashion.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday afternoon (March 6) as its Kansas trip begins with a match at Bethany (Kan.) at the Dr. Emory Lindquist Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
