LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The John Brown University women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Texas A&M Texarkana on Friday afternoon (Feb. 27) at Burns Park Tennis Center.
Texarkana (9-1) swept all three doubles flights to claim the doubles point against the Golden Eagles (1-5). Ana Gonazlez and Zahra Dreyer-Ferreira opened the scoring with a 6-0 win over sophomore Arianny Sira and junior Ana Moreno at the top position, before Adrianne Guangko and Maryam Awais blanked juniors Annelise Dunn and freshman Madilyn Smith, 6-0, at the third flight.
Emmanouela Besi and Lucia Siddens secured the doubles point with a 6-2 victory over freshmen Kaiya Dobson and Karen Torres at the second slot.
TAMUT extended its lead in singles play. Andrea Castillo defeated Torres, 6-1, 6-1, at the fifth position, followed by Awais posting a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over junior Avery Webber at the sixth flight. The match was clinched at the fourth spot, where Dreyer-Ferreira handled Dunn, 6-0, 6-2, securing the team victory for Texarkana.
With the outcome decided, Gonazlez defeated Sira, 6-1, 6-1, at the top singles position, before Siddens blanked Dobson, 6-0, 6-0, at the third flight. Besi completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Moreno at the second slot.
The Blue and Gold finish the weekend with a pair of matches on Saturday (Feb. 28) at Burns Park Tennis Center. JBU will tangle with Rust (Miss.) at 10 a.m. before facing Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) in afternoon action at 2 p.m.
