Biography

Before John Brown

Merte spent one season at NCAA II Rogers State (Okla.), where he competed in three events, scoring once for the Hillcats. He ran a season-best 26:57 at the Bethel (Kan.) Invite and averaged 27:40 in the 8,000-meter run.

Jean-Benoit is the son of Ralph and Wilma Merte and majors in international business.
