Biography

Dr. Timothy Wakefield is entering his 11th year as the faculty athletics representative at John Brown University, where he ensures a proper balance between academics and intercollegiate athletics.

Since joining the faculty in 2000, Wakefield has served as a professor in the Division of Natural Sciences. He currently teaches courses including marine biology, human anatomy, human physiology, global environmental stewardship, and faith and science.

With a deep passion for marine biology, Wakefield leads spring break lab trips to the Florida Keys, offering students hands-on experience with marine life. He also teaches marine biology courses for the Au Sable Institute during the summer.

Before his tenure at JBU, Wakefield trained Atlantic bottlenose dolphins at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Mo., while completing his graduate studies. For several years, he also worked as a professional dog trainer.

Wakefield earned a Bachelor of Science from Union University in Tennessee, a Master of Arts from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a Ph.D. from Auburn University.
