Game Recap: #3 Women's Soccer |

Beth, Lachance Tally First Collegiate Goals; Golden Eagles top USAO, 3-1

CHICKASHA, Okla. -- A pair of freshman landed their first collegiate goals as another freshman, Hannah Poor, added an insurance strike in the 87th minute, sending the women's soccer team to a 3-1 road victory over Science & Arts (Okla.) this afternoon at Drover pitch.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Morency (7-3-0) stood tall in net for JBU, finishing the match with six saves en route to the victory. This marked the fifth time in 2013 Morency has knocked aside more than five shots in a single match.

John Brown (7-3-0, 2-1-0 SAC) jumped out on top in the 18th minute when freshman midfielder Savannah Beth notched her first collegiate goal. Just after collecting a well-placed Rachel Harris throw-in, Beth managed to get loose on the right side and beat USAO netminder Brooke Worchester for the 1-0 lead.

The Drovers (1-8-0, 0-3-0 SAC) would respond, however, knotting the score at one in the 32nd minute as Jade Ovendale won a one-on-one battle, sending the shot past Morency.

Science & Arts out-shot the Golden Eagles 11-9 in the first half, forcing Morency to make four saves in the period. John Brown was only able to send two shots towards Worchester.

As the match wore on, JBU began to slowly build momentum and finally capitalized in the 56th minute. Freshman Braydi Frederick launched a shot that glanced off the post to the awaiting feet of freshman Sara Lachance, who made no mistake, firing the return home, recapturing the Golden Eagle lead.

As an insurance policy, junior Laura Garcia, who had already hit the USAO goal frame in the opening minutes of the match, sent a pass to Poor, who converted her third tally of the season in the 87th minute.

John Brown played much better in the second half, out-shooting the hosts, 7-3.

"We always celebrate a win and we think we can continue to improve," head coach Kathleen Paulsen noted. "We scored some good goals today and we'll work to keep a clean sheet in the future."

Frederick fired five shots towards the Drover net while teammate Casey O'Brien launched another four. Garcia finished the game with three shots. Once the Golden Eagle attempts found the target, its success rate was high as JBU tallied three goals on five shots.

John Brown will return home on Saturday (Oct. 12) to take on Oklahoma Baptist at 1:00 p.m. at Alumni Field.
