Men’s soccer blanked at Bethel

McKENZIE, Tenn. -- Bethel (Tenn.) scored early and often as the host Wildcats (3-0-0) built and maintained a commanding lead in a 6-0 win over the No. 19 John Brown University men's soccer team on Saturday (Sept. 2) afternoon at Wildcat Stadium.

The Golden Eagles now fall to 0-2-0 on the season. JBU hasn't started out a season with two losses since 2015 and hadn't suffered a setback so severe since a 6-0 loss at Science & Arts (Okla.), also a 6-0 score, on Oct. 16, 2007.

The host Wildcats jumped on top 1-0 after Mustapha Wadda netted his fourth of the season in the 25th minute. Kebba Demba and Ahmad Saidy each potted goals of their own to build a 3-0 lead at the break.

Wadda and Demba scored their second of the game in the second half, fifth and third of the season, respectively, while Leonardo Ferreira added his first of the season with 14 minutes left in the match.

Senior Adam Holt made fives saves in the losing effort while Marco Taffe (3-0-0) and Luis Borja shared the clean sheet for Bethel, extending the Wildcats' shutout streak to 270 minutes to start the season.

Senior Marco Cardona and juniors Ashby Clark and Kelvin Omondi each attempted shots twice, but Bethel out-shot the visitors 19-7 on the match.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Monday (Sept. 4) at Cumberland (Tenn.) for a noon kick-off in Lebanon, Tenn.
