SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Forced into 16 turnovers and unable to jump-start the offense with its usual three-point threat, the John Brown University women's basketball team suffered a 74-63 setback on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 20) against Mid-America Christian (Okla.) inside Bill George Arena.
A 16-8 turnover advantage for the Evangels (12-6, 6-4 Sooner Athletic), coupled with a 14-0 margin in fast-break points was enough to send the Golden Eagles (12-7, 6-4) to just its second two-game slide of the season.
A balanced MACU offense was highlighted by a quartet of 12-point scorers in Chelseah Savage, Jennah Coffman, Alexis Shannon and Brittany Thompson. Jessica Fairley added 10 to boast five double-digit scorers for the visitors, which hit 28-of-61 (48.0 percent) from the floor.

Despite finishing the first quarter 2-of-12 from the field after taking its eight-point lead, a bucket from Cameron and back-to-back triples from senior Rosa Opro from the right wing handed JBU consecutive leads, including a 23-20 advantage. The Evangels responded with an 11-3 run to take a 5-point lead, 31-26. Five points from Shannon, including a triple as the clock expired, in the final minute built the lead to 10 at the break.
The second half was a virtual tie on the scoreboard, including JBU pulling to within three, 48-45, but John Brown's 4-of-16 mark in the second half behind the arc and 11 first-half turnovers was too much to overcome.
The hosts finished 25-of-58 from the floor (43.1 percent) but managed just 9-of-33 from long range.
Cameron paced all players with 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting and senior Jana Schammel added 11, including a trio of triples. Orpo's three treys gave her 9 points in the loss. Sophomore Sara Williams contributed three points, six rebounds and five assists.
