SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Similar to last season, a long-standing streak was on the line, but this time Oklahoma City escaped Bill George Arena in sweeping fashion, ending the John Brown University volleyball team's 17-match winning streak inside its friendly confines on Friday (Oct. 5) night.
Oklahoma City (14-2, 9-1 Sooner Athletic) rode 15 kills from Marijana Bjelobrk and another 14 from Lacy Beeler to constitute the majority of the offense in the three-set affair. The visitors hit .379 (43-10-87) and ran away with 25-10, 25-19, 25-12 set scores.
Last season inside Bill George Arena, JBU erased a 2-0 deficit and handed the Stars its first Sooner Athletic loss in 24 matches. This time around, however, it was the visitors that forces the Golden Eagles to begin a new win streak at its home venue.
The hosts meanwhile, stumbled out of the gates, hitting -.032 (7-8-31) in the first set and finished at a .102 (24-15-88) clip. Junior Jessica Meyer led with kills, but junior Lindsey Davis hit exceptionally efficiently, launching five kills on eight attempts (.625) and added a trio of blocks.
The Golden Eagles rest before a six-match week. JBU begins with back-to-back home matches with Science & Arts (Okla.) and Mid-America Christian (Okla.) on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, before taking off to Columbia, Mo. to take part in Columbia's Hampton Inn Classic.
