BATESVILLE, Ark. -- Senior David Moots put home JBU's 10th shot of the match in the 82nd minute and the John Brown University men's soccer team remained perfect on the season with a 1-0 victory on Saturday (Sept. 1) afternoon at J. Marshall Huser Field.
Accumulating a large shot disparity (12-5) in the contest hadn't yielded a chance to pull ahead until Moot's second-career goal pushed the Golden Eagles (3-0-0) to a pair of 1-0 clean sheets so far in three matches.
Moots picked up a loose ball to left of the goal after freshman Ari Johannesen redirected a Santiago Vanegas cross. With just over seven minutes to play in the contest, the Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead that it wouldn't relinquish.
The Scots (0-2-0) fell in its second-straight one-goal loss as keeper Gianni Santin made six saves.
JBU senior keeper Britt Wisener nabbed his second-career clean sheet, backstopping John Brown with one save on five shots sent his way.
In a chippy match that featured 21 fouls and six cautions, Vanegas and senior Ashby Clark led the visitors with two shots apiece.
Rafael Santos let go three shots for Lyon, including the hosts' lone shot on goal in the contest.
JBU now returns to Siloam Springs for a few days before departing for Orange Beach, Ala., where the Golden Eagles will take on William Carey (Miss.) and Keiser (Fla.) on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
