Cameron Surpasses 2,000 Points, Women’s Basketball Make Easy Work of Langston

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- With a jumper deep in the right corner just before halftime, senior Baily Cameron clinched another personal milestone, and the John Brown University women's basketball team used a lopsided second quarter to defeat Langston (Okla.), 86-41, on Thursday (Feb. 21) night inside Bill George Arena.

Out-scoring the Lions 23-1 during the second quarter, the Golden Eagles (16-12, 12-9 Sooner Athletic) turned a four-point lead at the end of one into a 26-point advantage at the break. JBU continued the offensive onslaught in the third to build a game-high 48-point advantage early in the fourth quarter.

Already cemented in the record books as the program's all-time leading scorer, Cameron's jumper just before the half etched another personal accolade. The jumper allowed her to surpass the 2,000-point barrier and became the first player in program history to accomplish the feat.

In fact, Cameron paced the hosts with 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting and finished her 10th double-double of the season by pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds. John Brown controlled the boards all night and finished with a 53-31 rebounding advantage.

The second quarter JBU defense was staunch – holding the Lions (5-16, 10-19) to 0-of-10 shooting from the floor and seven turnovers. Tennia Hill split a pair at the line that held as Langston's lone point of the quarter.

On the other end of the court, the Golden Eagles shot over 50 percent from the floor and converted 5-of-9 attempts from behind the arc to build its sizable halftime lead.

Finishing nearly 50 percent from long range (14-of-30), the John Brown offense continued into the second half shooting 45 percent overall and enjoyed buckets from 10 different scorers.

The massive 35-1 run bled into the third quarter and finally ended when Jhordyn Patton hit a bucket at the 6:37 mark of the third.

Senior Karina Chandra and junior Jordan Martin both finished in double-figure scoring. Chandra hit 7-of-12 from the field to score 17 points while Martin hit all four field goal attempts to contribute 12 points and added four assists. Sophomore Taylor Fergen passed out a game-high five assists to go along with nine points, all on triples.

Langston, which finished at a mere 25 percent from the floor, received a game-high 22 points from Tennia Hill, who shot 8-of-20 from the floor. Five of her field goals were from behind the arc. Shantrice Picking turned in a stellar effort of five points, nine rebounds and four blocks.

The Golden Eagles now know they will begin the Sooner Athletic on the road in the quarterfinals, but the location and opponent has yet to be determined. JBU will close out the regular season with a finale at Central Christian (Kan.), set to begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 23).
