CLARKSVILLE, Ark. -- For the third time this season, the John Brown University women's tennis team found itself on the losing end to Ozarks (Ark.), this time by a 6-3 final at the Alexander-Boreham Tennis Center.
The Golden Eagles (0-6) took a 2-1 lead into singles play with a pair of victories in doubles action. Senior Julia McNeill and freshman Sydney Smith teamed up for its third win of the season, downing UO's Nadia Madronal and Karlee Hart, 8-1. The freshman tandem of Sabrina Paiz and Jayden Engel posted its second win of the season, taking care of Kaitlyn Gutierrez and Anna Ryan by another 8-1 final.
The host Eagles (4-5), however, responded by taking all four bottom singles flights to mount the comeback. Smith was the lone Golden Eagles to land a singles victory, a 6-0, 6-1 dominating performance over Alexis Rogers to move to 4-2 on the year in one-on-one action.
JBU returns to the court on Monday (Jan. 11) when it faces yet another NCAA II foe, Arkansas - Ft. Smith, at 3 p.m. in the river valley.
