SILOAM SPRINGS -- Eleven players scored and eleven Golden Eagles registered at least a field goal as the John Brown University women's basketball team defeated Ecclesia (Ark.) by a 92-32 margin on Monday afternoon (Nov. 21) inside Bill George Arena.
The win improves the Golden Eagles to 6-2 overall and extends JBU's winning streak over the Royals (3-5) to 20 games since 2008.
Despite a modest start, shooting 8-of-21 from the floor (38 percent), the hosts held Ecclesia scoreless (0-of-8, 10 turnovers) through the first 10 minutes of play to build an 18-0 that never narrowed.
The John Brown defense forced the Royals into 29 turnovers – second-most caused this season for the Golden Eagle defense – and limited Ecclesia to just 11-of-49 shooting (22 percent) from the floor. Callie Whitfield led the visitors with nine points, two buckets coming from deep.
Four Golden Eagles finished in double-figure scoring, paced by Tarrah Stephens' 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor. She also contributed seven boards and three helpers.
Junior Bella Arlenborn recorded a career-high 13 points on an efficient shooting effort at 4-of-6 overall. Sophomore Emily Sanders and junior Elise Cone each chipped in with 10 points apiece while senior Lisa Vanoverbeghe added eight points and a team-leading six rebounds.
Hitting 35-of-72 from the field, JBU improved to 4-1 on the season when it shots higher than 48 percent. The hosts battled to a lopsided 47-30 rebounding advantage and turned 29 Ecclesia miscues into 26 points off turnovers.
Before returning to Bill George Arena a week from Saturday (Dec. 3), John Brown returns to Sooner Athletic play for good on Thursday evening (Dec. 1) when JBU travels to McPheron, Kan. to take on Central Christian inside Jerry Alexander Arena at 6 p.m. The battle will air live on the SAC Sports Network.
