Southwestern Christian Outlasts Golden Eagles in BGA

SILOAM SPRINGS -- Junior Noah Taylor poured in a season-high 19 points to lead three Golden Eagles in double-digit scoring, but Southwestern Christian rode Ronald Moore's game-high 22 points as the Eagles escaped Siloam Springs with an 86-83 decision over the John Brown University men's basketball team Saturday afternoon (Jan. 14) inside Bill George Arena.

John Brown led by three, 79-76, after senior Tyren Collins completed an old-fashioned three point play, but the final of 14 lead changes came in the form of a game-ending 10-4 run by the Eagles (8-8, 6-5 Sooner Athletic), as JBU hit only 2-of-5 from the floor down the stretch.

Joining Taylor in double-figure scoring was senior Payton Guiot who also drained four triples and dished out six assists to finish the afternoon with 18 points. Freshman Lukas Gabani provided a pair of jams en route to a 10-point game, while Collins pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and added nine points in the loss for John Brown (4-13. 2-9).

Moore led SCU by shooting 8-for-14 overall, while Luiz Machado secured a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan William chipped in 12 points and Bralen Patterson went 5-of-5 from the line to finish at 11 points.

Despite owning a 49-42 rebounding advantage – including 19 offensive rebounds which produced just 12 second-chance points, the Golden Eagles again fell victim to below 40 percent shooting – the eighth time this season (0-9). The hosts shot 30 percent in the first half before improving slightly in the second to end at a 39 percent (32-of-83) mark, while Southwestern Christian pieced together a 55 percent effort in the second half, finishing at 48 percent overall (31-of-65).

JBU will now travel to Chickasha, Okla. for its next matchup when the Golden Eagles face Science & Arts inside the Drover Fieldhouse on Thursday night (Jan. 19). Scheduled to tip at 7:45 p.m., the duel will be featured on the SAC Sports Network live.
