OKLAHOMA CITY -- Senior Erick Diaz scored two goals, including a game-winner, and junior Kyle Hix rebounded with a pair of wins in the Golden Eagles' 2-0-0 week as the duo was named the Sooner Athletic Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced Monday (Oct. 2) morning.
The honors were both the first of the respective student-athletes careers.
Diaz, a native Tico, helped John Brown (5-4-0, 2-0-0 Sooner Athletic) to a pair of conference wins, scoring the game-winner from the penalty spot in a 3-1 victory over Science & Arts (Okla.) to open conference play. He then followed up the performance with the match-opening goal in a 2-1 win over Southwestern Christian (Okla.).
Diaz had a total of six shots with three of those on goal during the week, including his conversion from the spot.
Hix, a Highlands Ranch, Colo. product, was outstanding in goal for the Golden Eagles, making 10 saves, including six stops in the 3-1 victory over the Drovers. He finished the week with a .833 save percentage on the 12 shots on goal faced.
Hix is now 5-2-0 on the season and boasts a 1.20 goals-against average over the eight matches he's appeared in.
The Golden Eagles welcome Wayland Baptist (Texas) and Oklahoma Panhandle State to Alumni Field this week to wrap up a three-match homestand. JBU takes on the Pioneers at 5 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 3) before facing the Aggies at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 7) afternoon. The SAC Sports Network will broadcast both matches live.
