Lambert’s Seven-Point Outing Powers Golden Eagles to Thrashing of Wayland Baptist

PLAINVIEW, Texas -- Sophomore Julia Lambert, the reigning SAC Offensive Player of the Week, recorded two goals and three assists (7 points) to lead the No. 21 John Brown University women's soccer team to a 12-0 win over Wayland Baptist on Thursday night (Oct. 24) at J.V. Hilliard Field.

The overwhelming win marked JBU's sixth outing this season scoring six or more goals, including its third consecutive clean-sheet victory. With the result, the Golden Eagles improve to 9-5-1 overall and 6-1-0 in Sooner Athletic play.

With two matches remaining, JBU still remains tied with Mid-America Christian (Okla.) and Science & Arts (Okla.), but holds the tiebreak for the conference tournament's top seed.

Lambert set the tone early by assisting Lauren Walter in the third minute for the game's opening goal, which quickly put the visiting side in control. She continued with another assist to freshman Katherine Keys in the 18th minute, extending JBU's lead to 4-0. Lambert then scored twice herself in the second half, achieving her third brace of the season.

The Golden Eagles dominated from the start, netting five first-half goals. Sophomore Summer Holmes, junior Aubrey Winter, and sophomore Addie Craig also found the back of the net before halftime, giving JBU a strong 5-0 advantage at the break.

In the second half, JBU's relentless offense added seven more goals. Winter scored just after the restart, assisted by Lauren Walter in the 46th minute. Lambert continued to orchestrate play, assisting senior Regan Riley in the 58th minute for her first collegiate goal, and scoring her own in the 60th minute. Additional goals from senior Grace Bishop and junior Lillian Johnson rounded out the team's highest scoring performance since a 12-0 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State back on Oct. 17, 2019.

Thirteen different Golden Eagles registered points in the lopsided victory.

Freshman Marely Fonseca (5-2-0) earned her fifth shutout of the season with two saves, maintaining the Golden Eagles' defensive hold as the Pioneers (2-11-0, 1-6-0) was held to just two shots on target. WBU goalkeeper Ava Kent was kept busy, recording 15 saves on 27 chances under heavy pressure from JBU's offense.

The Golden Eagles continue its final league road trip on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 26) with a 1 p.m. contest at Oklahoma Panhandle State. Live coverage will be available on the SAC Sports Network.
