ASHLAND, Neb. -- The John Brown University women's cross country team took 19th place at the Blazing Tiger NAIA Classic, hosted by Doane (Neb.), at Mahoney State Park on Saturday morning (Oct. 26).
In a competitive field of 27 teams–including six top-25 programs–and 303 runners, the Golden Eagles posted a team finish time of 2:03:10, averaging 24:38, in the 6,000-meter race. Nine harriers captured personal-best times on the fast course.
Leading the way for John Brown, freshman Anna Keys turned in a personal-best performance, crossing the tape in 23:51.4, which earned her 69th place overall. Junior Hope Ahnfeldt followed closely, recording a time of 24:10.9 to secure 90th place, while senior Emma Brown finished in a personal-best time of 24:53.4 (143rd).
Freshmen Zoe Stout completed the course in 25:05.9, taking 150th, while Paige Andrews crossed just four seconds later in 25:09.5 to finish 154th. Both freshman PR'ed, locking in a 1-5 split time of 1:18 on the race.
St. Mary (Kan.) clinched the team championship with a total time of 1:49:48, averaging 21:57 with a score of 30 points. The individual title went to St. Mary's Reagan Hiebert, who blazed through the course in 21:31.5. College of Idaho claimed the runner-up spot with a team time of 1:51:22 and a score of 66, followed by Dordt (Iowa) with a time of 1:53:12 and a total of 100 points, finishing third overall.
The Golden Eagles will now prepare for the 2024 Sooner Athletic Championships, scheduled for Saturday (Nov. 9) morning at Eldon Lyon Park in Bethany, Okla.
