JOPLIN, Mo. -- The John Brown University women's cross country team placed 18th out of 22 teams at Saturday morning's (Sept. 20) Stampede, hosted by Missouri Southern State at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.
The Golden Eagles finished with 470 points in the 236-runner field.
Sophomore Anna Claire Orr paced JBU with an 82nd-place finish, clocking 20:38.98 over the 5,000-meter course. Freshman Edith Bell followed in 90th place with a time of 20:57.96.
"Incredibly proud of Anna Claire for managing shin pain recently and still stepping into this race with confidence," noted head coach Peter Cunningham. "She earned a big PR. Edith Bell continues to prove herself as a gritty athlete. Brand new to any distance beyond 1,600 meters, she is performing exceptionally well."
The Blue and Gold's scoring was completed by sophomore Camryn Chaffin in 95th place (21:15.13), junior Esther Norwood in 97th place (21:15.85), and sophomore Adelyn Janssen in 106th place (21:32.56).
The team's top five runners finished within a 53-second spread.
Rounding out John Brown's top seven were freshman Brianna Vargas Herrera who placed 135th in 23:11.99 and senior Naia Shepherd who finished 139th in 23:30.73.
Pittsburg State (Kan.) claimed the team title with 45 points. Host Missouri Southern State finished second with 56 points, while Rogers State (Okla.) took third place with 89 points.
The Golden Eagles return to the course on Saturday (Oct. 4) to participate in the Chile Pepper Festival, scheduled for 11 a.m. at Agri Park in Fayetteville, Ark.
